Months on Hiatus

Hiatus – the break between two vowels

Coming together – in separate syllables –

From busy hibiscus and all the sun flowers – to fall chill –

Before the resurrection of the blooming cycle

I take time – and ask you too –

To prune – leave nodes on branches for new

Growth to emerge – anything dead or weak or crossing twigs remove –

And in the gap of winter wait – know that soon bud tips will poke through

Enjoy the intonation of each season's kisses –

Compare with last year's colours – feel the temperature difference –

Hear the prosody that comes in the waiting – with reverence

For that soft-lipped space between – the hiatus
